Construction Industry Fair Play Act Posted: 11/17/2010 The Exchange is pleased to sponsor a Seminar on the new “Construction Industry Fair Play Act” which took effect in New York State on October 26, 2010. This new act presents stringent limitations on the determination of who is/not an independent contractor and, in some cases, may even prevent a legitimate business enterprise from working as a subcontractor to a prime who can/could perform the work that the subcontractor does. The New York State Labor Department is charged with the enforcement of this Act.
The Seminar will be presented by Attorney Joseph DeTraglia of the law firm of Getnick, Livingston, Atkinson and Priore, Utica. Plan to attend what prompted passage of this Act; how this Act could affect you as an employer of “Independent Contractors”; how this Act could affect you as an “Independent Contractor”; the penalties involved for “violating” the Act; and more.
This Seminar will immediately precede our annual Membership Meeting on December 15, 2010 at the Ramada Inn, New Hartford and will start promptly at 4:00 pm. There is no charge to members of the Exchange to attend this program. Reservations, however are required. Reservation deadline for the seminar is December 10, 2010.
Plan to attend, learn more about this Act, and plan to stay on for our Annual Membership Meeting!
